Watched by 60,000 fanatical supporters at Celtic Park and millions more around the world, Celtic are more of an institution than a football club. With a rich history that includes a European Cup and 42 Scottish league titles, following the Bhoys is a way of life.
The club will forever be remembered for the Lisbon Lions, the Celtic side who were the first British club to lift the European Cup and the only Scottish team ever to do so. What is more they did it with a team of home-grown players. Every member of Jock Stein's 1967 team was born within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park.
Celtic's strong European tradition has been carried on into more recent times, with Martin O'Neill taking the club to within a whisker of UEFA Cup glory in 2003 and Gordon Strachan ensuring the Hoops continue to punch above their weight in the Champions League. For all their contributions to European football on the pitch they are also ambassadors for Scottish football off it with Celtic fans praised everywhere they go for their excellent behaviour and wholehearted support of their team.
One of Scotland's Old Firm clubs, Celtic share one of the fiercest rivalries in football with Glasgow neighbours Rangers. Derby matches between the two are renowned for the amazing atmosphere they generate. The players are often as passionate as the fans and the games are often littered with red and yellow cards.
Since the days of the Lisbon Lions Celtic fans have had plenty of heroes to idolize, including Kenny Dalglish, Paul McStay and the man voted Celtic's greatest ever foreign player, Henrik Larsson. Larsson is still known as the 'King of Kings' among the Bhoys faithful for his 242 goals in 312 appearances.
